Not that grenade fishing is a good idea in any form, but I believe in grenade training they tell you to throw the grenade as far from you as possible then get behind a protective barrier. Remember, safety first people.

This reminds me of the story I read by a Navy Seal. They were on patrol, and stumbled upon a booby trap they had set a while previously. It was a gun with a grenade with a zero second fuse buried underneath. That meant that as soon as the lever flipped off, it would explode.
They ended up deciding to deactivate it, and gave the grenade to a junior officer to hold until they could find a pin to re-insert in the grenade. The junior officer came to the opinion that he disliked this plan, and threw the grenade away to save him and his men.
When the guy telling this story visited the lucky officer in the hospital, the officer said that he figured that, if he threw it hard enough, the grenade would be far enough away to not cause damage. The grenade with a zero second timer. Which he tried to throw away.
This seems just as smart. If anyone has heard this story, please give me a heads up so I can properly attribute it.
